Final Project: Social Presence

Well, here it is!! I am not the most excited about it, but I gave it my very all. I learned that I would rather talk through written communication because my speech skills need polishing.
Maybe you will learn a little something from it!

Video clips and clipart were obtained from Corel, Animation Factory, and a few were downloaded from Google images. I will post my annotated bibliography in the doc sharing area of our course.

All I can say is Tah-Dah!

  1. Good idea to have Dr. Moller as the speaker. I really would not have thought about doing that.
For your question, "is it possible to convey real presence in a text-based environment without natural face-to-face interaction," you provided a lot of information throughout the video.
Good definition of social presence. I agree that you must learn to use media and that socialization is different with online learning than with traditional face-to-face learning.
Good examples of ways to create social presence in an online environment, such as introducing yourself and using media to continue communication with the group.
Ther most important point was to practice using the ways to interact with the students.
    Very good job!

  2. You scored some points with Dr. Moller!

Your video editting capabilites are really good! I thought that your information about social presence was explained very well. I especially liked how you equated social presence with student success.

    Awesome job!

  3. Thanks Sharon,

This has been a very long, rocky road, but I know that I gave it all I had. Social presence is important and I have learned to open up to all my classmates to improve my learning experience and not feel so alone when attempting new technologie. It is because of you and others in the course that I found my way to technological help with determining appropriate video software.

Thanks for the collaboration this semester,
    Marci

  4. Kristen,

Thanks for the compliments on the video, and I thought the timeline was difficult. Whoo! It had nothing on this project.

I have enjoyed working with you this semester!

  5. Way excellent!! I have to ask...did you use a Mac? I would like to learn your "secrets"...what program did you use? Your video in and of itself has great presence. Your narration sounded very comfortable and succinct.

  6. Marci,

Yay! You did it! And you were so worried. The presentation is great. I enjoyed the fact that you used Dr. Moller as the keynote speaker. It is very hard to create social presence in the online classroom. I wish some of my students could better understand that. It is something I have had to think about quite a bit lately. The information you provide is "food for thought." I appreciate it. Best wishes in your future courses!

  7. Hi, Marci!

Very well done! It certainly showed that you put a great deal of work into this project. You really had me interested in hearing what the keynote speaker would have to say. Also, without the development of strong social presence, the online classroom becomes a boring and perhaps, desolate place. By the way, Mark was right in noting how your video flowed so smoothly. In fact, It was pretty slick :o)

Hope to 'see' you next quarter,
    Leasa

  8. Marci,

Excellent presentation! It was very clever that you placed clips on the computer screen image. That detail pulls the audience in and keeps their attention. Your main points made it clear to the audience why social presence is applicable to them.

It has great working with you this quarter. Your assignments are always on target and amazing! I can tell you put a lot of work and effort into your assignments!
